What you see is what you get

Got a problem with my Joomla editing at the moment where the JCE editor does not show the correct styles as I am creating or editing an article.

I get around this problem by trial and error, but today let’s fix it!

This method may cause problems if you have background or transparencies.

  1. After installing JCE (current 2.3.1) and making it your default editor….
  2. Go to the menu Components -> JCE Editor -> Global Configuration.
  3. Under Formatting & Display set Editor Styles to [Custom CCS File]
  4. And Custom CSS FIles to [templates/$template/css/editor.css]
  5. Save and done.

If you have a involved template and this give you n editor you can not even see, use this option to create a useable editor even if not to the same style and colours of your website. Tip to http://www.cartanova.ca/code-labs/item/114-jce-template-css.

  1. Open a Text Editor on your PC.
  2. Save the empty file as jceblank.css
  3. Next, upload the jceblank.css file to your current template’s CSS folder.
  4. Go to the menu Components -> JCE Editor -> Global Configuration.
  5. Under Formatting & Display set Editor Styles to [Custom CCS File]
  6. And Custom CSS FIles to [templates/$template/css/jceblank.css]
  7. Save and done.

That’s it!  Now your editor will include a very simple display of paragraph and h1, h2 text, etc. – quite useful if you have a CSS-rich site and the online-editor isn’t going to approximate ‘how things will look’ very well anyway.
